Keep in mind that there are often several synonyms for the same topic – if you don’t find resources under ‘death penalty,’ for instance, you might try searching instead for ‘capital punishment.’
Multidisciplinary Databases
Find newspaper, magazine, trade, and academic journal articles from across disciplines in these databases.
Academic Search Premier
A general database that indexes articles in academic journals, newspapers and magazines covering nearly all academic disciplines.
Proquest Research Library
A database with both popular and scholarly materials that span the academic disciplines. Some materials are full-text within this database, and some are not.
CQ Researcher
This is a great resource to look for articles arguing for or against a particular issue. Each weekly edition of this newsletter discusses a social issue from a pro and a con point of view.
Credo Reference
An online collection of Reference books that offer sometimes very brief, sometimes detailed information on subjects crossing academic disciplines. Both subject-specific and general resources are included.
Literature Resource Center
This is a great database for introductory materials about a particular writer or work. It provides very detailed biographical material, as well as criticism of a particular work, both older criticism and newer.
JSTOR: The Scholarly Journal Archive
An
extensive, full-text database of academic journal articles, covering
most academic disciplines with a particularly strong collection in th e
humanities. The results will be listed in order of relevance.
Lexis Nexis
A
database that contains current, up-to-date newspapers, both regional
and international. It also contains magazines, law reviews, medical
journals, state and federal codes and case law.
Newspaper Source
Another newspaper database that contains not only regional newspapers (both the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News are searchable in full-text), but also news transcripts from radio and television news shows.
